Women's Foundation of Boston 2020 Annual Report

Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine is president of the Sunshine Care Foundation for Neurological Care and Research (SCF), an international nonprofit organization dedicated to finding innovative ways of delivering free clinical and neurological care to impoverished patients in rural areas of Asia. She is also Co-Founder of the Collaborative Center for X-Linked Dystonia Parkinsonism at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She is a member of the Harvard University Board of Overseers, the Harvard Kennedy School’s Dean’s Council, and the Harvard College Fund Executive Committee. Within the Greater Boston area, she serves on the boards of the Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston and the Massachusetts General Hospital President’s Council. Why did you get involved with the Women’s Foundation of Boston? I believe deeply in the mission of WFBoston, knowing that the work they do is elevating the human condition for women and girls in the Boston area. This has huge ripple effects. Women take care of everyone else. They support their families, their community and society as a whole. It is essential to invest in women because you cannot give what you do not have. What is unique about WFBoston? We are not like other nonprofits; we elevate and open doors for other nonprofits. We are here as catalysts and strategic partners. It is about growth and community, developing ourselves, and through that, nurturing others. It is about using our influence, networks, and skills to do something good. What is it like to be a part of WFBoston? The founders and volunteers have fire and passion and I get drawn energetically to these types of people. I surround myself with people who are passionate about similar ideas and that energizes all of us to accomplish those dreams together. I want all women to know that they can do anything if they focus on it. GERALDINE ACUN ˜ A SUNSHINE Investing in the Power of Women & Girls 25
