Women's Foundation of Boston 2020 Annual Report

Investing in the Power of Women & Girls 5 OUTREACH We meet potential grantees from across Greater Boston: from Lawrence, Lowell, Worcester and New Bedford, as well as Boston and surrounding areas. We review their missions and programs and create a list of those that focus on economic empowerment solely for women and girls. INVITE We invite the selected nonprofits to apply for grants during our annual grant cycle. The application process includes a detailed website for applicants, online letter of intent forms (LOI) and a clear overview of requirements and schedules. We invite open communications with applicants prior to the application date. VET & EVALUATE We use a two-step process informed by our collective business lens and implemented by a grant cycle committee. Round 1 includes careful review of mission fit, viability and program impact. Rounds 2A and 2B focus on the program outcomes, leadership experience and financial strength. To maintain consistency and objectivity, we use ratings scorecards. The final group is reviewed and voted on by the Board of Directors. INVEST Research shows that multi-year funding achieves better results because nonprofits have more time to focus on the programming and not the fundraising. Therefore, most of our grants are multi-year, and we partner with our grantees to help them succeed. ANALYZE We review impact, and financial data, and engage with our grantees at least twice a year. We analyze life stage, geographic area, racial demographics as well as program focus. We review metrics to ensure that goals have been met. PROMOTE We promote our grantee partners via social media, connections with corporations and foundations, and events, bolstering the entire sector. DATA & PASSION LED US HERE
