The Big Sister Association of Greater Boston (BSAGB) ignites girls’ passion and power to succeed through positive mentoring relationships with women and enrichment programs that support girls’ healthy development.
In 2019, the Women’s Foundation of Boston awarded Big Sister Boston a five-year grant for their New Girls Network (NGN), a mentorship program that matches professional women from various industries (mentors) with the young women who serve as Big Sisters (mentees). NGN’s year-long mentoring relationships offer assistance and information on topics common to women in the workplace.
In 2020, WFBoston awarded Big Sister Boston a COVID Response Fund grant to secure a match for their Social Distancing is not Emotional Distancing virtual program. The funds helped cover expenses for a virtual book club, virtual volunteer training, coaching, and virtual tool kits for all 1,175 Little Sisters.
In 2020, WFBoston also provided a three-year grant to Big Sister Boston for their Our Big Futures program, which supports teen mentees who have aged out of the Big Sister program. These young women, ages 14-24, seek additional support to make college and career decisions and to achieve financial independence.
In 2022, WFBoston continued its multi-year support of BSAGB with a three-year grant to support Big for a Day, a program that lets girls waiting for a permanent match engage in an enrichment activity in the areas of Health & Fitness, STEM, Civic Engagement, Career & Education, and the Arts, hosted by local organizations. This program serves to bring in new volunteers, spark corporate interest, and increase the number of girls served by the organization.
