Esperanza Academy is a tuition-free, independent middle school for girls from low-income situations that welcomes students of diverse faiths, races and cultures through its lottery-based admissions system.
In 2024, the Foundation awarded a Catalyst grant to support Esperanza’s Engagement Pathway project, modernizing and enhancing community outreach efforts, such as a website redesign, an enhanced donor and graduate management system, a comprehensive annual report, and a graduate-focused publication to highlight student achievements.
In 2023, WFBoston awarded a three-year $180,000 grant that will fund a second science teacher to ensure a more robust STEM program and instruction.
In 2022, WFBoston funded a Catalyst grant to fund an additional math teacher, doubling the number of math teachers at Esperanza, providing a key component of the overall plan to develop a more robust mathematics and STEM program.
In 2020, WFBoston, through its COVID Response Fund, awarded a grant to Esperanza Academy to supplement tuition and provide books, uniforms and other necessities to 8th grade graduates as they moved on to high school during the pandemic
