Science Club for Girls (SCFG) provides free STEM after-school programming for K-12 girls from underrepresented communities in the Greater Boston area. It fosters excitement, confidence, and literacy in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for girls and gender-expansive youth from underrepresented communities by providing free, experiential programs and by maximizing meaningful interactions with women-in-STEM mentors.
In 2024, WFBoston awarded a three-year $300,000 grant that will help SCFG’s expansion in Greater Boston and the Gateway Cities. This is SCFG’s seventh grant with the Foundation.
In 2022, WFBoston awarded SCFG a Catalyst Grant to fund an in-person intensive Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Program school vacation week camp for middle school girls during the April 2023 school vacation. The curriculum developed will also be available for use in their regular after-school programs and for SCFG Live!
In 2021, WFBoston funded an additional full-time Program Manager and a part-time Communications Associate. These positions helped expand the number of girls served both virtually and in-person, while also supporting additional college-readiness programs and enhancing support for mentors.
In 2020, WFBoston funded SCFG’s Internship Program, providing opportunities for professional growth to girls from under-resourced backgrounds, at the same time as increasing SCFG’s virtual programming and communications.
Since 2018, WFBoston has extensively funded SCFG with a variety of grants, including funding the Executive Director’s salary and providing operating support, as well as facilitating the pivot to virtual technology during the COVID-19 pandemic.
