Women's Foundation of Boston

Women's Foundation of Boston Research Partner: Zoë WilliamsResearch sponsored by the Women’s Foundation of Boston found that career negotiation workshops help women improve their negotiation proficiency and achieve better outcomes in their careers.

In January of 2021, we hosted a pilot negotiation workshop for women affiliated with the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, one of our grantee partners. Zoë Williams, a master’s student at the Harvard Kennedy School, designed and measured the impact of the workshop in collaboration with Harvard negotiations professor Hannah Riley Bowles and experienced facilitator Florangel Suero. Workshop participants showed significant improvement in their negotiation skills following the workshop and are already applying their new skills, advocating for themselves in their pay, roles, and workload. In response to these findings, we at the Women’s Foundation of Boston plan to expand access to negotiation training for more women and girls in Greater Boston.
